Stroke is classified into two main types: ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Ischemic stroke, the most common, occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery supplying the brain. Hemorrhagic stroke results from a ruptured blood vessel causing bleeding in or around the brain. A transient ischemic attack (TIA), or “mini-stroke,” is a temporary blockage warning of future strokes.
